Why handmade is best

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

All our products are made by hand in our studio in the small town Stourbridge, an area well known for it's glass industry. Our pots are produced individually, in small batches. Each pot is lovingly shaped by hand. Each layer of glaze will react in different ways to each pot. So, even in a set, each pot will be unique. It will have its own characteristics.

Why is this important to us? In a world filled with mass production, having pots that have are one of a kind is important. Our influence comes from our surroundings. The environment we are in at the time, or when we are travelling. Our research is the recording of our observations through drawings, paintings, notes and photographs. These are then taken back to the studio to inspire the pots that we make. So when a pot is being created, the marks, cuts, brush strokes are all derived from our research. Each mark is a moment, just like when we are capturing a place through painting. It becomes reactive or instinctive. We treat ours pots like we would a piece of art work and yet we want them to be used. They are stoneware and will cope with the rigours of life.
